Dinh Thi Tham Poong (Vietnamese, b.1970) is best known for her harmonious colorful paintings which look like patch-work of various patterns of floret and traditional ethnic motifs. Born in Lai Chau province, a mountain region in Northwestern Vietnam, Tham Poong is mixed of White Thai and Muong descents. She often depicts the women of ethnic minorities in their daily activities such as harvesting, going to the market, resting and wandering in the nature. Yet the characters appear in dream-alike scenery as if they walked out from the imaginative world of folklore poems. Tham Poong’s works have been exhibited widely in Italy, Austria, Japan, and America.
